Stopping Smoking To Save Your Life
Stopping smoking can stand as one of the hardest things you will ever do in your life. It is as though you are losing your best friend. The problem is that friendship will kill you and not quickly either. There is a lot of suffering involved, once the damage to your body reaches a certain point. I watched my Grandmother and my Uncle die of lung cancer and my father is currently dying slowly with CHF and COPD.
Stopping smoking is the best thing you can do to not become one of the statistics who falls victim to harm from nicotine. Tobacco is a very strong cancer-causing agent. It is related to a number of different cancers, including lung cancer. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for both men and women in the United States.
There are many diseases associated to smoking such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, vascular disease, stroke, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis, heart attacks, blindness, and impotence. That is just a small list of the problems smoking leads to.
Stopping Smoking will help save your life and significantly reduce your risk of being diagnosed with one of the related smoking induced diseases or cancers. Tobacco use kills 444,000 people annually in the US. 36,666 people die per month, 8,461 per week, 1,205 per day, and 50 per hour.
Smoking does not just take away a few months of your life. Smoking reduces the average life span by 12 years.
Smokers death rate is 2 to 3 times higher than that of a non-smoker. It is estimated that it will cause 10 million deaths per year world-wide by the year 2020.
Smokers are 6 times more likely to risk a heart attack. That risk increases with the number of cigarettes smoked. Cigarette causes an estimated 1 out of every 5 deaths per year in the United States. Being around smokers and inhaling their secondhand smoke causes approximately 38,000 deaths per year.
Those numbers are pretty overwhelming and eye opening. Stopping smoking is the absolutely best thing you can do for yourself if you are a smoker. No matter how hard it is, how much you love cigarettes, or how dependent upon them you are, you must quit now before nicotine takes your life.
